The Kontrabant group has been in action since 1994. It nourishes and brings together high-quality acoustic ethno, folk and country music, as well as many other types of music in the Slovenian, Hungarian, Serbo-Croat, Romani, Yiddish and English languages, with a touch of all these different cultures.
Kontrabant has left a mark on the Slovenian music scene with numerous albums and hits, some of which like Regrat v salat (Dandelion Salad) and Prekmurje, moje Prekmurje (Prekmurje, My Prekmurje) have almost become part of the national consciousness and are recognised as folk songs. Kontrabant has earned several nominations for the Golden Rooster Slovenian music award.
The group has released two very popular CDs for children under the Nepridiprav (Little Rascal) name, and has produced 2 CDs with Slovenian folk music as their producer and supporting musicians. Béla has also released a very good solo album, which was re-released in 2014 due to popular acclaim.
Recently, the band released their seventh studio album entitled Sladki bes (Sweet Fury), which features the poetry by the Hungarian poet Lajos Bence. The album tracks are performed in both Slovenian and Hungarian.
